Welcome to our Reading at Farringdon Community Academy page.
This is where we will upload newsletters/ reading strategies/ links and competitions to all things reading! Keep an eye on this page as it grows!
At FCA we believe it is our duty to strengthen our students' reading skills so that they are set for life in the 21st Century. That is why we have invested in an online adaptive reading programme: Reading Plus. All students in Key Stage 3 complete 1.5 hours of Reading Plus activities both in one of their English lessons and for homework every week.
‘ Reading Plus is an evidence-based adaptive reading improvement programme. Designed to develop children’s reading skills by increasing their vocabulary, comprehension, metacognition – and silent reading fluency. Aimed at pupils in KS3 and above, Reading Plus has a readability range from Y2 to beyond GCSE. It supports pupils to develop the skills they need to read well and with confidence.’
As we get closer to the end of another half-term, please find attached a link to the Pixl KS3 and KS4 Reading Newsletter.(pdf) This includes a wealth of information about recommended reading books, links to author videos and discounts for books to help you in supporting your child with reading for pleasure. If you have any questions about any of the books or would like us to support you in sourcing these for your child, then please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Creegan.
At FCA we know that reading is the gateway that makes all other learning possible, that's why we are investing in many interventions, groups, and competitions. Please take a look at our Reading Newsletter to find out more.
